HELLO & WELCOME TO THE OUTER LIMITS OF THE WWW. This is my portfolio muse. I'm Tony Anderson, it's good of you to visit.

I am an illustrator and designer. In my spare time I make books and in my spare spare time I draw pictures and also screen print from time to time.

At the moment I'm looking for work, here are some things I can do:

I have a wide range of skills and I am looking for a collaborative approach cos working from home leads to strange activities such as talking to pot plants.

You can download my resume here. Not quite as interesting as hearing it from the horse's mouth though. I'm not a horse by the way. I'm looking for work in an agency or studio.

COLD CASES is a series of feature stories by Stuff.co.nz. They wanted to create something where the user interacts in a different, more meaningful way than their regular news stories.

I created a filing cabinet where the user sifts through 'case files' and investigates for themselves more about each case. They can find video, maps and other information in the files.

Cold Cases is going to be unrolled cases by case for the next 6 weeks.

Here's the link.

Hell yeah! - Bikes, Placebo, Headless Chickens and the sun is shining in Wellington. This is a recent video I made. It combines my love of cycling, wellington and new found love of the world of video production. WARNING - I have been cycling for years, you gotta be careful out there.

Yip it's a bit shakey, but looks way better in high resolution but here's the web version.

Ever wondered what the city would be like if a cyclist designed it? Wonder no more - check it out a vision here.

This is the Wellington 20102020 Project. Having spent a year in Tokyo and cycled in various cities in Europe I find cycling facilities in Wellington somewhat lacking by comparison. We have a long way to go in terms of cycle safety. My wife cycled for a while in Wellington but after a few harrowing road rage incidents has given it up and now catches the bus. The reality is you have to be a little bit pushy as a cyclist for reasons of safety. She wasn't.

The Wellington 20102020 Project is a few ideas from the perspective of a cyclist on how to create a cycle safe city for everybody, not just the loony cyclists like me.

Ok so it's a bit crazy. I know and really I'm not crazy myself. Maybe I should pack up and live in Copenhagen, I think I would find things sane there.

Niagara Green Web Site Design

Here is a website I built for Niagara Green Interiors. They hire and maintain indoor plants to offices and in Wellington. A very clean refreshing botanical aesthetes was required to contrast with what can be, without plants, drab office environments.

Acupuncture Works Wellington ^_^

This is a web site for Acupuncture Works. The playful nature of the site reflects the client's personality and takes the edge of what is a sharp topic, needles. The client wanted to enlighten the viewer the many aspects of Acupuncture beyond needles.

Letter forms and font design is fun. Sometimes along comes a design brief that requires lettering beyond the font list. The logo type for Brownie and Associates is an example where I have designed letter forms for a client's logo.

Here's some interactive work I did for The Alchemist a while ago. The story is a a play on the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. It is a bit of a puzzle maze so you have to do a bit of work to click your way through. I've noticed kids seem to be better at figuring it out. Go figure?
Have fun with this one. I did.

Here are some typical sketchbook pages. I love sketchbooks. I always have on on the go and they're full of muses rants ramblings scribbles and doodles.

Depending on time/workload, it may take months and months to finish a sketchbook and it may contain numerous projects, freelance ones and personal ones. Sometimes It may take a few pages before I find that special character or expression I'm looking for. It is a very relaxed and hypnotic process.

I love books. I love books so much one day I decided to write one. It was a combination of English teaching and love of typography that set me on the journey to write and illustrate an ABC book.

You can buy Amazing Alphabetical Adventures at the Book Depositary here cheap while the exchange rates are in upsidedown mode. Or ask for it at your nearest book shop.

Amazing Alphabetical Adventures

The book is a crazy journey through the alphabet. There are loads of crazy characters. Below we have London Library Labyrinth where we find a host of characters trying to locate Lisa's Lost Lunch.

E page from Amazing Alphabetical Adventires

Here's a quote from a review that I found sums up the book nicely:

"To say that Anderson was influenced by Dr Seuss would be a massive understatement; like Seuss he has produced an imaginative loony book that taps into common archetypes of the imagination. The alphabetical adventures tell short tales of quirky and eccentric characters stuck in a more stylised tick-tock world that we are all stuck in. It is not surprising that most of the characters inhabiting this world represent disempowered individuals. One hypo burnt out character with bulging eyes is stuck at a colorful xerox machine pushing buttons and putting the copied pages into an out tray. Above her are the words ‘Xeroxes. Xeroxes Xeroxed X-rays. Xeroxes Xeroxed xylophonist X-rays. X-rayers X-rayed Xeroxes Xeroxing xylophonist X-rays’." Nick Archer - Salient

Thanks Nick - read Nick's full review here. Yip, love the good doctor. 'X' was one of the more difficult pages but because you have to go so 'far out' to get there it's mayhem when you arrive. Won't put a pic up - you gotta buy it!

Mad Cow Circus

Mad Cow Circus. This book is one I made before Amazing Alphabetical Adventures. A labour of love, it is a collection of writing (I don't think you would describe as poetry) and doodles. The pages I printed out of my home/office printer, the cover is screen printed and it's bound by hand. No, it's not available at the Book Depository, I've got a few copies left, email me for one if you like.

Some of the more observant among you may have noticed a slight revamp of this web site. I still like the old one so it is still there. I couldn't get rid of it so here's the LINK.
